Home-ful Bound
June 2026 | Perth Boorloo, Western Australia
December 2025 saw my good friend Melissa Cameron and her hubby Bruce, move into their brand new architecturally-designed house. A long time coming, after years of construction, so definitely a moment to celebrate.
Around the same time, Melissa started handing out pieces of jarrah wood offcuts to her jewellery friends. A little strange you might think, until you learn that these were small pieces of jarrah that were used to build her new home, and it was the start of an idea that will mark this milestone for her.
I was one of the lucky recipients of an off-cut, and tasked with the challenge of making a new piece of jewellery. The only set criteria - I have to use the wood. Anything else is up to me. Soon we will all be asked to return our new creations to Melissa, where they’ll be put on show in one glorious collection.
Pieces of jarrah have been distributed across the state, the country, and overseas, so I can only imagine the exciting variety of works that will come back!
Plans for the show are still underway and details yet to be finalised (not to mention, my design is still to be finalised!), but I’m loving the whole idea of this. It’s such a beautiful way to gather friends and peers to celebrate a new house and home in a meaningful and creative way.
